Tuesday Truths

1. The truth is... Tori loves to fart and poop. Seriously, within 1 day there has been 4 poopy diapers changed. That's a lot!

2. The truth is... I love to go after Christmas shopping. I didn't get to go on Monday but I went today. There wasn't much left, which is a little disappointing.

3. The truth is... Jack Jack LOVES his toys he got for Christmas. It was so much fun watching him go crazy with them.

4. The truth is... I have decided to bottle feed Tori. It was a hard decision to make but I'm less stressed out now. We will have to see what happens for the other kids.

5. The truth is...Josh is now the 2nd counselor in the Elder's Quarm. I think he's nervous... and he's sad because he will probably get released from his Sunday School calling (which he loves).

More Pictures

I'm so excited! The pictures that were taken of Tori at the hospital have finally been delivered! They were really expensive (don't ask how much) but they were worth it! Our house will probably become decorated with Tori for awhile (at least until we have another one and we can include them).

I couldn't imagine...

I will admit that when I first found out I was going to have a baby in December, I was a little upset. I never wanted a baby in December because of the whole birthday and Christmas being in the same month issue. I didn't want their birthday to get forgotten or combined with Christmas. However, the farther along in the pregnancy I went, the more I didn't care. I was just excited to have my little girl join the family.
My little Victoria is now with us and I couldn't be happier. I love her so much it is indescribable. I cannot get enough of those cute chubby cheeks and little smile that occurs when she is passing gas. I love it! Although I never wanted a December baby, I couldn't be happier to have one during this time of year. I have been able to reflect more on our Savior and his birth. I think of what Mary must have been going through when she gave birth in that stable so many years ago. I think of the love that she had for her son and then watching him die on the cross. That would have been so hard. I love having a baby right now, it makes me think of the real reason why we celebrate this time of year.
Victoria was born tongue-tied, which means she couldn't move her tongue as well as she should have been able to due to a little piece of skin (I think that is what you would call it) attaching it to the bottom of her mouth. Because of this she couldn't nurse very well and it made everything painful for me and she couldn't get any food when eating. She had the problem fixed earlier today. It was so hard listening to her cry and seeing her mouth bleed. It was a simple procedure but it was so hard for me to even be in the room. I will admit, I couldn't watch. Just listening to her cry in pain made me want to cry. I felt so helpless. This made me reflect, not only on Mary watching her son die on the cross but our Heavenly Father watching his son in the Garden on Gethsemane and then again on the cross. He couldn't interfere and that must have been difficult. However, he knew that it was all going to be worth it and through these events we could all return to him. I am in no means comparing myself to him, but through this event I have caught a glimpse of what our Heavenly Father must have felt. It was hard for me, I couldn't imagine what he went through watching his son suffer. What great love he has for all of us.

Tuesday Truths

1. The truth is... I'm having a hard time figuring out something to do today. Well, I want to do a lot of things but I'm not supposed to do them.

2. The truth is... Josh and I sometimes "fight" over who gets to take care of Tori. I don't mind doing it and neither does he. She is already spoiled.

3. The truth is... When I took Tori to her first out-of-hospital check up with the pediatrician she had lost a pound! NOT GOOD!

4. The truth is... The pediatrician said that Tori is tongue-tied, which means she probably isn't getting much milk because she can't move it well enough. It is getting fixed on Thursday.

5. The truth is... Jack Jack loves his little sister... a lot. He smells her most of the time and when he can't find her he searches for her around the house. It's so cute!

Victoria Opal Hoffman

Before I begin anything, such as posting pictures and telling the birth story, I have to say I have the most beautiful baby EVER! I know that everyone thinks that of their child, but she really is perfect and I cannot get enough of her cuteness. I will also ask a question, which I will answer later in this post. Which is worse to go through: labor or a kidney stone.
I will admit that I had a pretty easy pregnancy. I also got lucky with a halfway decent labor. I say halfway for a reason and you will understand.
Sunday morning Josh and I went to church as normal. All the women in relief society were talking to me about how close my due date was. They all said that she would arrive within the week. Josh said that she would arrive on the 18th while I was thinking the 20th. It is better to think late than early. Anyway, we went throughout our day thinking nothing of having a baby come that night. My two older sisters told me that she would come that night because it was a full moon and babies like to arrive on the full moon. After spending dinner with just the two of us and some time together that night we went to bed. (May I just add in here that it was great we had dinner just the two of us because everything was about to change!)
Around 1 AM (December 12th) I woke up because I was having a contraction and it was really painful. I also had to make a trip to the bathroom. I sat up and next thing I know water is rushing out of me. I knew it was my water. I woke Josh up and told him my water broke. We timed contractions for a few minutes and they were coming really hard and fast! Around 1:30 AM we left for the hospital. (I had to finish packing a few things.) On the way I called my parents to tell them my water broke. My dad answered and was so asleep thought I was my sister Paula calling. He eventually got it. Mom came right to the hospital and was there for support, which was great!
When we arrived at the hospital we went to triage and I got checked. I was dilated to about 5 cm. Things were moving kind of fast! They took me over to labor and delivery. In the mean time the contractions were making me really sick as well as my insane back pain. Yep, I was having back labor. Wow! Combined with that and contractions, it totally sucked! I wanted to go natural and have no epidural but because I was getting so sick from all the pain I caved. No, I don't regret the decision. Which is where I answer my question. Labor is WAY worse... and I only knew the part that I did.
**I am going to add something that NO ONE ever mentions about labor and apparently is normal. I was shaking a lot and I couldn't stop (kind of like I was cold and shivering). Everyone said that it happens often because you are going into shock. Hmm.... thanks for the information people!**
Around 3-3:30ish I received my epidural. It was amazing! I was able to sleep for awhile (I had only gotten about 3 hours of sleep that night) and relax. The nurse said that I got a really good epidural... which makes me happy. I really did not feel anything!
Around 7:30 I started to push. At the beginning I had to be told when to push because I couldn't tell when contractions were coming. Near the end I could tell when to push and I mentioned it every time. After an hour of pushing my sweet Victoria finally decided to come join us. She was born at 8:38AM and weighed 8 pounds 6 ounces. She is 20 3/4 inches long. She is absolutely amazing! She has both me and Josh totally wrapped around her fingers (mostly Josh's.)
May I add how AMAZING Josh did during the whole thing. He has really bad anxiety and this would definitely bring it on. He had to take a few walks outside of the room but he did really well. He actually held one of my legs as I pushed. He also helped me to remember to breathe before I got the epidural. I could not have done it without him!
Just after birth. I know I look retarded but I had just had a baby.
Daddy and his little girl. I love watching him with her!
Close up!
Me and Tori in our room recovering.
Sweet Tori.
Grandpa Baker and Tori. She loved snuggling up against his belly!
Brother and sister meet at last!
Coming home from the hospital!
Plotting against his sister or being a good guard. I'm guessing guard.

Tuesday Truths (on Wednesday)

1. The truth is... My days of the week have been completely thrown off this week!

2. The truth is... I would have posted yesterday, but I was in the hospital.

3. The truth is... Victoria officially became a member of the Hoffman household on Monday morning! (December 12th). -pictures and details to come!

4. The truth is... I am actually able to answer the age-old question of: which is worse-labor or a kidney stone. My answer: labor.

5. The truth is... Victoria totally has Josh wrapped around her fingers. He is in love with the little girl. Jack Jack is still extremely curious about her and I think (after only a few hours of her being home) is having a hard time adjusting to her.

Last Christmas

I've been listening to Christmas music on Pandora.com and I heard a rendition of "Last Christmas" by Taylor Swift and it made me think of what was happening in my life last Christmas. It has nothing to do with the song, but I thought of what my mind was going through and I thought that I would share it with everyone.
Josh and I (in August) decided that we were finally ready to start having kids. So, yes, we were trying to get pregnant in December of 2010. I will be honest, I wanted to have kids when we made the decision but was scared to begin. Josh made his decision one day while home teaching (he loved watching the little girl dress up in princess dresses). When he told me he was ready I started to get a little scared. The Baker girl crazy that me and my sisters posses started to kick in. We were not financially prepared for anything like that. However, Josh just said that we needed to take a leap.
December 2010 rolls around and we were still not pregnant. I'll admit, I was getting discouraged, and it had only been a few months. I couldn't imagine what others who had been trying longer were going through. I was supposed to start my period about 3 days before Christmas. It never came, and I'm usually on time. I was so excited. I thought that I could be pregnant. I probably took 3 or 4 pregnancy test just to be sure. They were all negative. It broke my heart because I was getting so excited over the fact that I could be pregnant. I told Josh what was going on. After a week of being late, I called the doctor to schedule my yearly and notify them that I was late, and no good pregnancy test. I was still hoping I was, but the tests were wrong (yeah right). I ended up heartbroken a few days later because I started my period.
Now, a year later, I am so excited to be able to have a baby of my own for Christmas. I have so much to be thankful for. She is really the only thing I want for Christmas this year. Josh and I have been truly blessed to be able to have a baby of our own. I could not imagine what others go through. Just that one experience broke my heart. I just hope that I can continue to remember that and be more sympathetic to those who are unable to have what I have been blessed with.
I have come to realize that I will have a baby before Christmas, even though I don't want to be induced, my doctor won't allow me to go longer than a week after my due date. That would be the 23rd. I'm hoping that Heavenly Father will allow her to leave his presence and join us soon. I can't wait to meet her and hold her after he has held her sweet spirit.

Tuesday Truths

1. The truth is... Josh is now working full-time at Primavera. I'm so excited for him!

2. The truth is... Jack Jack snores like crazy. I love it!

3. The truth is... Josh and I woke up at 4:30 AM this morning and could not go back to sleep. Yep, it sucks.

4. The truth is... 10 days until my due date! The last 9 months have been going by so slow! (Even Josh thinks so!)

5. The truth is... When I went to the doctor last week I was dilated between 1 and 2 centimeters. I've been having a lot of contractions lately, lets hope it is more when I go in on Thursday!
